Adhirasam is a famous Tamil sweet dish. Adhirasam is popular as an offering to the gods during puja or prayers on the festivals like Diwali. It is like a doughnut-like pastry which has a long history of popularity in Tamil civilization. It is prepared with rice flour, jaggery, and sesame seeds and has some flavor of cardamom powder. Here is the step by step recipe to make Adhirasam at home.
Ingredients of Adhirasam Recipe
- Rice flour - 1 Cup
- Powdered jaggery - ¾ Cup
- Water - ½ Cup
- Cardamom powder - 1 Teaspoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 Teaspoon
- Oil for frying - 2 Cups
How to Make Adhirasam
Step 1: Bring the water to boil in a pan and add powdered jaggery to the boiling water. Stir the mixture for few minutes and make syrup.
Step 2: Pour this jaggery syrup little by little to the rice flour, gently stirring the mixture through to make a soft semi-solid dough.
Step 3: Sprinkle cardamom powder and sesame seeds to it and mix it through. Then divide the dough into small balls.
Step 4: Heat the oil in a deep frying pan.
Step 5: Rub a few drops of oil on the plastic sheet, roll out each ball into a small puri.
Step 6: Fry them into heated oil over medium flame until it turns golden brown from both the sides.
Step 7: Drain them and serve.
