Tandoori Chicken Recipe

Classic North-Indian style tandoori chicken recipe marinated with yogurt, lemon juice, ginger, nutmeg and other spicy masalas.

Tandoori Chicken Recipe


  • 2 fresh seeded red chilies
  • ¼ tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves crushed garlic
  • 2 teaspoons crushed ginger
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 6 chicken thighs, skin removed
  • 200 gm low-fat yoghurt
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 whole cloves

How To Cook?

Step 1: In a food processor, puree chillies, onion, garlic, ginger and lemon juice until it becomes smooth.

Step 2: Mix cumin, pepper, coriander, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf, turmeric, nutmeg and paprika in a small bowl.

Step 3: Cook for 1 minute on HIGH, stirring halfway through cooking. Remove bay leaf and cloves.

Step 4: Combine chili mixture, spices and yoghurt together. Spread over chicken.

Step 5: Cover it and marinate overnight, stirring occasionally.

Step 6: Place on a roasting rack and cook for 20 to 25 minutes on MEDIUM HIGH flame. Turn over halfway through cooking.

Step 7: Serve with boiled rice.
